Relevant Research Projects

  • Assessment of climate change impacts on rainfall distribution and extreme flash flood events in the semi-arid region of El Paso, Texas, May 2023 – Present

Conducting an in-depth analysis of the anticipated effects of climate change on rainfall patterns and flash flood occurrences in semi-arid regions, with a specific focus on El Paso, Texas. The study involved investigating the vulnerability of urban areas to flash floods due to factors such as rapid urbanization, complex infrastructure, and altered precipitation patterns resulting from climate change.

  • Systematic Detection and Analysis of Virga Precipitation and Associated Dry Microburst, July 2022 – Present

Extending my recently published work on virga precipitation to better comprehend the link between virga and regional air quality. The goal is to analyze the impact virga precipitation has on the climatology of precipitation in semi-arid regions.

  • Calculation of Fire Energetics using Multispectral Infrared Camera, October 2022 - February 2023

Worked on calculating fire radiative energy and power of the laboratory biomass fires using thermal imaging information from TELOPS MS M350 multispectral infrared camera. The experiment was conducted in the U.S. Forest Service’s combustion facility at the University of Georgia at Athens as part of the Georgia wildland-fire simulation experiment (GWISE).

  • Establishing Regional Ceilometer Network, May 2018 – July 2022

Successfully established and managed a network of 3 Vaisala Ceilometers in the El Paso-Juárez region. This network enabled a better characterization of the planetary boundary layer structure in this US-Mexico cross-border region with complex topography. Developed data collection and management skills and set up an FTP server for secure data storage and transfer.

  • Analysis of the Regional High Ozone Episodes, August 2017 – July 2022

Studied the air quality of the unique cross-border El Paso, Texas – Juárez, Mexico region using the ground level and upper air data. Focused on understanding cross-border (long and short range) pollution transport, accumulation, and dispersion, by working extensively on Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) funded projects. Learned to be an efficient communicator and work closely with the funding agency.

  • Ozone sonde Field Campaign (Summer of 2017, 2019, and 2020)

Developed skills to successfully prepare and launch 72 ozone sondes during the study period. Used knowledge of the planetary boundary layer thermodynamics to characterize its influence on regional high ozone events. Also used the opportunity to spread awareness about the local community’s regional air quality issues by inviting public participation, also promoting the event via social media platforms.
